What does the AI Act mean for your organization?

The AI Act brings new regulations that set guidelines for the responsible use of artificial intelligence. In doing so, the European Union wants to ensure a reliable and transparent use of this technology. But what does this mean for your organization in practice?

In order to better regulate the use of AI and reduce risks, the law distinguishes between different types of AI applications. General use of AI such as chatbots or search engines falls under light regulations. More impactful applications such as AI in healthcare, recruitment or credit assessment must meet more stringent requirements. Systems that involve too great risks, such as AI that assigns citizens a social score, are banned.

For organizations, this means that it is becoming more important to consciously deal with AI use. Companies and institutions that use AI must be able to demonstrate that their systems are transparent and fair. This brings new challenges but also opportunities. Organizations will invest more and more in knowledge and training to properly inform employees about responsible use of AI. This isn't just about technical skills. It's also important that employees understand ethical issues, privacy, and how to avoid biases in AI models. Let's say an HR department uses AI when applying for jobs. Without sufficient knowledge, a system can be unintentionally biased, which affects the selection process. With the right training, employees can recognize and prevent this.

The AI Act provides clarity but also raises questions. How do you ensure that innovation is not compromised? How do you translate the regulations into a practical application within your organization? These are issues that companies will need to address in the coming years.

What is certain is that AI literacy is becoming increasingly important. Organizations that invest in knowledge and training will not only comply with regulations but also be better able to use AI responsibly and strategically. By finding a balance between regulation and innovation, companies can use AI in a way that is both safe and forward-looking.
